Statement:  I am a character designer exploring why people don’t exercise and the harm of a sedentary lifestyle in gamers.
Idea:
(opinion) aim at the gaming community, this is a specific group of people who spend many consecutive hours and more time in front of a screen than the vast majority. The addictive nature of the games coupled with the escapism can leave people sucked into the virtual void, losing time and losing health. This issue doesn't get addressed as often as more detrimental addictions such as drinking or gambling but it's just as valid and often leaves people in a state of anxiety. 'I need to do certain things, get out into the real world, work, do uni work etc. but that's daunting and challenging and I'd much rather level up my character.'
People who play video games have less time interacting socially and as such become socially isolated. Making friends becomes more intimidating and so they resort to a virtual world where interaction has no real-life consequence, and thus the cycle continues. Social interaction is imperative to mental wellbeing.
Question: How do I use design to encourage those in the gaming community who feel socially isolated and who don't exercise to join a club or community which engage in physical activity.
Outcome: design a set of friendly and relatable characters with emphasis on diversity to be inclusive towards anxious and socially isolated gamers.

Video interview with some of Felag. The interviewers show their inner douche but also made the same point that I'm trying to make; "everyone needs something to give them a sense of belonging and this is what those guys have found. Not only that, they've become champions at it."
